Spellbinders Clubs of the Month – Wax Seal, Embossing Folder and Glimmer, June 2024

All three Clubs of the Month rolled into one card…simple but with some hidden tricks!

With this card I tried to capture the waves coming onto shore over the sand.

  1. Emboss a light blue, deeper blue, and sandy parchiment paper with the wavy Embossing folder of the month.
  2. On the light blue, I sanded the raised edges to show the white core of the paper.
  3. I cut the deep blue and the parchment paper pieces to create a 3.75″x 5″ piece of paper when one third is the sand and two thirds is the water and I taped them together on the back.
  4. The light blue piece was cut differently in pattern to the water and sand so it would stand out a bit differently. Then I sanded the raised portions of the light blue paper with a piece of sandpaper from my garage. This brought out the white core of the paper. Cut at a different angle than the other embossed pieces I glued that on top of the sand and water, thus creating the thinner layer of water rushing over the sand.
  5. To add some gimmer and shine I added some white embossing power and some Altenew Transluscent Pearl embossing powder over some of the deeper blue, the lighter blue, and some of the sand. This gave it a glimmery effect as if it is wet.
  6. For some added texture I mounted with foam tape over goldish and blue glitter paper then mounted it all on the card base.
  7. The wax seal was done with blue wax and then a gold uniball pen to color in the sun and rays.
  8. The sentiment is done in Satin Pewter and the June 2024 Glimmer of the month sentiments.

Rosie’s Studio Bayfair  with Spellbinders

Do you love patterened paper?  Do you hoarde it?  Do you use it? The Bayfair Studio Collection from Rosie’s Studio has such a good combination of products that are worth saving and using!!

I had so much fun playing with these papers, stickers, ephemera, etc.  This first card I started off with a square but turned it into an A2 card.  Using the flowered paper it covered the outside and the inside of the front.  The inside has a triangle of the green paper but not corner to corner.  The off-corner gave it just a bit more pizazz.  I recreated the flower of the paper using the Classic Scalloped Circles small etched dies from Spellbinders Classics.  The sentiments were from the Bayfair Cardstock Sticker Pack and the dragonfly on the front from Bayfair Dragonfly Embellishments.

Spellbinders Glimmer of the Month, Embossing Folder of the Month- May 2024  and a Bonus card

Don’t you just love the shimmer and shine from the Glimmer Clubs?  This month is NO exception with the gorgeous Tropical Bloom with Fuchsia Flower foil.

Steps:

  • Using the Glimmer machine and following directions I put my plate down, foil shiny side down, cardstock, heated it up and ran it through my Spellbinders Platinum machine.  OOOO so pretty.
  • There are two sentiments with this flower plate – Thinking of You and Sending Best Wishes.  Both were glimmered with the same fuchsia flower foil.
  • Using the stencil that came with it I colored the flower with a pale purple then darker in the center…fading to the ends to give it the glowing effect.  I also colored the stem green to stand out from the flower.
  • There was no die with this plate but it was very easy to fussy cut out with good scissors.
  • The background was a pale shade of lilac cardstock embossed with the Embossing folder of the Month laid over some Tim Holtz metallic cardstock.
  • To add more dimension, I put foam tape behind the flower so it floats on the carefront.

This, so far, is one of my favorite Glimmers of the Month…but Spellbinders keeps getting better and better so who knows what will come next.

Bonus Card

Since this plate came with a stencil also, I was curious as to how it would look with just the stencil and no outline.  I started playing with it and using blue ink for just a few pf the pedals, fading to purple.  Then I thought I would try a minty green to mix into the pedals….

OK HERE’s the happy accident!  I picked up a blending brush that had a light gray on it but hadn’t been used for awhile so I figured the ink was dry, but light enough it wouldn’t be affecting the minty green too much.  Surprise, some of the green came through but so did the gray, and some of the purple from the stencil moved onto the paper as well.  Hmm, what is this going to look like?  When I took the stencil off and saw the beauty of this, I was totally enamored.  Will I be able to redo this another time?  Probably not, but by using blending brushes of the past you can still come out with beautiful work.  Now, THIS is my favorite card!

Spellbinders Timeless Collection

Do you ever wonder how to use delicate and fine detail dies?  Do you have trouble cutting them out?  Try some of the Spellbinders Glitter paper.  I cuts like ‘butter” (as Laura Bassen might say).

This first one is cut with pink and green glitter paper Spellbinders Timeless Duo.  TIP:  use low tack tape to hold your die in place and cut it with the cutting edge upward.  With this tip and the great glitter paper everything comes out spectacularly.

The background is embossed with Spellbinders background Embossing folder of the month – partially embossing the top and the bottom, leaving a flat space at the center; Lightly ink blended over to show the texture.  The whole card base was cut out with the Scallop Labels and Tag Etched Dies from the Sealed 3D Botanical Collection and a thin frame was created with two of the labels in this set.  The cute little flowers were from Spellbinders Small die of the month Feb 2024.    The sentiment is from Smooth Lines Mix & Match Sentiments Etched Dies from the Be Bold Collection cut from Tim Holtz Silver paper.

This second card is a gate fold card first ink blended with Blue Horizon and Teal Tempest Altenew Inks.  To make the gatefold:

  • simply start with a 10”x7” piece of white cardstock.
  • Score 2.5” from each side on the long ends and fold inward

The silver die cuts come from Tim Holtz silver paper as well as Spellbinders Timeless 5X7 Cardfront dies.

I made a mistake in cutting my card base so my measurements we slightly off – so the two “gates” didn’t meet as they should have.  To compensate for this, I added a strip of paper along the edge of the left side, matching it with the paper behind the center Oval of the Timeless 5X7 cardfront dies.

The sentiment is from Always You Timeless Sentiments Press Plates from the Timeless Collection, glimmered with silver foil.

This is such a pretty collection of fine dies. They really make a Timeless classy display. I’d love to see what you would do with these dies. Please tag me on Facebook or IG if you create with these.

Thanks for visiting. Hope to see you again soon!

Spellbinders Propagation Garden by Annie Williams

It’s spring and all the beautiful flowers are beginning to bloom outside but our tried and true all season plants are still inside. House plants are the best…giving life in our living area. My mother had house plants all over as I was growing up. And this first card has another special meaning…

When my adult daughter was in fourth grade I was a parent volunteer on a trip to the career center for the area. One of the classrooms we visited was the Horticulture class. They had lots of plants they were growing and taking care of — especially the spider plants. We were each given a baby spider plant to take home with us. It was planted and well loved at home and my daughter and her three sisters each took a baby shoot off it to grow in their own home. Thirty years later, the plant offshoots are still going strong. So this is my favorite card!

Using the PROPAGATED PLANTS ETCHED DIES:

  1. Cut several of the wide spread dies from lighter and darker shades of green – ink blend on them if you would like. I did a little but my paper was iridescent so it doesn’t show a lot in the picture.
  2. Cut some roots in a lighter shade of green or beige color.
  3. Cut one (or two) of the leaf parts in pieces to create two smaller “babies” and attach roots.
  4. Use patterned paper or leftover to create a vase. I cut my vase from a scrap of my watercolored embossed die of the month paper (see previous blog post).
  5. Create a background — mine is on gray paper embossed with Simon Hurley’s 3D Embossing folder (I LOVE THIS DESIGN)
  6. Splatter your background with some black ink and White Spatter. Please note: this white spatter is terrific but it doesn’t look like much when you first get it. It is mighty and just needs a bit of a stir and a little water to thin it and then tap your brush to splatter your surface.
  7. Embellish as desired.

I chose to put this on a slim line card since the babies hang down from the parent plant. I used some twine to connect the parent plant with the baby plants.

The next two cards were really fun to make. The one on the left uses the String of Pearls dies and the right card uses the Bamboo and Monstera plant dies. Again I created vases from scraps of my watercolored embossed paper. The frames we lots of fun also. The one on the left looks difficult but if you follow directions online after cutting out all the pieces, it is really easy to put together.

The left background is from the Leafy Helix Embossing folder and on the right from the Tufted 3D Embossing folder.

The sentiments are all from the Propagation Garden Sentiments Stamp and Die set.

I just LOVE this co!! All of it reminds me of a great memories that are very special! Do you have memories of special plants from your past? Please share in the comments.

Spellbinders Embossing folder of the Month

Do you want to add a bit of texture to the background of your card?  Do you sew or stitch? Or not?  Either way, this embossing folder works great in either the embossed or debossed side.

On a piece of Altenew watercolor paper I embossed the design with the folder.  I want to practice and learn more with watercolors so I decided I would try a rainbow affect.  With Altenew watercolor paints I first wet a row of the embossed design then added in some pigment going down in rainbow order.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it so I just went ROYGBIV overall and figured I’d go from there.

I tried lots of different ways to layout a design and finally took the Nestabilities Deckled Rectangles Etched dies and cut out a piece from the ROY part and from the GBIV part of the paper.  Playing with it still, I dropped a random white die cut on it and thought — oooo, that white looks good on the darker GBIV piece.  From Simon Hurley’s Floral Stems Etched dies I cut one of the long-stemmed flowers from white cardstock.  To keep with the rainbow theme, I cut out a piece of holographic paper with the deckled rectangles also.

Now the layout was getting easier and easier to see how pieces would fit together.

For the first panel over the card base, I debossed a plain white card panel with 80# Neenah Solar white cardstock.  This folder is great on both sides.

This was looking very bright and cheery so I thought it would make a great birthday card.  The sentiment comes from the Thanks Enclosed set of dies.  I cut it out 4 times and layered three of them.  I added some glossy accents but didn’t like it so I just added the fourth die cut on top when the accents were still tacky and it became my glue.

With the white flower to the left of the Happy Birthday, popped up with foam squares, the layout and card was complete!

Sometimes it takes awhile to find what you like. Sometimes what you started with you don’t like. Yet, if you walk away and come back to it, it will take on a new life and is so much better than you expected. In the end, I really like this card but it did have to grow on me in fits and spurts. What do you think? Have you ever had that experience? Feel free to share with me on Facebook or Instagram your thoughts.

Thanks for visiting today. Please come back again.

Spellbinders More Fresh Picked in specialty Glitter

Do you like glitz and glimmer on your cards?  Do you like sparkle?  Then Spellbinders Glitter paper is for  you!

Here a a sample of the paper with the beautiful new die “More Fresh Picked Angel Trumpets” This is a great combination with the glitter paper as it takes up the whole card front.  It will fit on an A2 size also but I chose a 5”x6.5” card base to display this beauty.

I also like to play with some of the colors on the glitter paper.  I loved the pink flowers that it created.  For the edges and the centers I modified the pink glitter:

  • Added Ranger Gumball Alcohol ink to make the pink a darker color
  • Added Ranger Sunshine Alcohol ink to make it orangey.

So much fun to play with the colors and so easy to just add a few drops to create a new color.  These glitter papers are strong enough to take the extra colors/moisture but still die cut beautifully.

After putting it together I added some black and white spatter to the card.  Black splatter can be done easily with almost any black ink but I have struggled with the white splatter…UNTIL NOW.  Spellbinders recently came out with a new White Splatter.  Don’t be fooled by its small bottle – and on opening to find it only is partially filled.  This is truly SMALL and MIGHTY.  The white pigment may have a little oily separation look but a simple stir with your paint brush is all it needs.  Then using that paint brush, put some on an acrylic block and spritz it with water.  Hold your brush over the area you want to splatter and just tap your brush around.  I really like this splatter because it is sharp and clear, not translucent.  It especailly is good over black cardstock.

This is a quick card in die cutting and putting together and makes a great statement piece!  Glitz, glitter, bright colors, full card…you can’t go wrong with any of the components of this card.

Do you have a different color Angel Trumpet in your yard?  Show me yours with this die and tag me so I can see its beauty also.

Thanks for visiting my page.    Hope you come again and share your creations with me also.

Spellbinders Glimmer Club of the Month

Do you like sparkle and shine on your cards? Do you look for new ways to create shine? Well, this month’s theme of the monthly clubs at spellbinders seems (pun intended) to be on stitching. But wait, you aren’t a fan of stitching? No problem, I’ve got you covered!

I didn’t know about stitching on cards much so I decided to just glimmer the six strips and use them as stripes on my card. Using the glimmer machine and Aura foil, I foiled on white cardstock. Then I used the solid plate and glimmered the reverse on white cardstock. I also glimmered the Better Press Butterfly Garden Press Plate and Die set, using only the sentiment and the butterfly of the reverse.

For the first card I colored my strips with blue inks from Altenew – Artic, Persian Blue and Sapphire. (TIP: rub cardstock with paper towel to bring back the shine after inking.) I taped the stipes together to get a good idea of how I wanted them on the card. Then ran white cardstock through the Four Floral 3D embossing folder. This is one of my favorite embossing folders! I cut some gold cardstock for the bottom of the card, angled for what I wanted to match the strips. To put it all together, I layered light blue cardstock then the white embossed panel popped up with foam tape. Next I added the gold over the bottom and angled the strips over gold and white with more foam tape. Since I know of lots of birthdays coming up I die cut the sentiment(not sure which company’s sentiment it is), glued it down and added the butterfly.

This second card I used the same Four Pedal 3D embossing folder with a white cardstock panel. Mounted it on gold background, added the Glimmered strips across the bottom with foam tape and topped it off with the butterfly.

Maybe someday I will stitch on cards, but for now, I think I’ll stick to the strips. Let me know what you like to do and if you would try this.

Thanks for visiting me…come back again soon.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day Pot of Gold at the end of a Rainbow

I looked out my window after the rain and not only did I see a beautiful rainbow but also a huge pot of gold overflowing with nuggets! Oh, soooo magical!

This great background was made curtsey of Spellbinders Glimmer plate of the Month and Rainbow hot foil. So much fun for a simple card.

Steps:

  1. Ink blend a white card base with some Distress Speckled Egg ink and a touch of Lost Shadow.
  2. Using the Glimmer machine and Rainbow foil create another piece of cardstock.
  3. Once foiled, clean up any loose foil then ink blend over it with both inks again. When done rub a paper towel over the foil to bring out the shine again.
  4. To create the pot I went really simple — an oval die cut that spans the width of the rainbow. I added some black embossing powder over part of the ‘pot’ to indicate an edge. By using a Distress embossing brush pen it is very easy to do. Add powder then heat.
  5. The stand for the pot was just a negative piece of cardstock from the end of the oval diecutting then adding black embossing powder as in #4.
  6. I trimmed the RAINBOW down on each side following the lines and used some thin (1/8″) foam tape to adhere it to the card base.
  7. I did the same for the stand of the pot, then added more thin tape to the whole pot and positioned it over the rainbow.
  8. Using a gold pen I put coins and nuggets into the pot.

The special surprise for added dimension is GOLD WAX from wax seals! Instead of making a big seal I simply created little drops and used them like dots to fill and overflow my lucky pot!

The sentiment is also from the March Glimmer Club of the Month foiled with Cobalt blue foil. CLUBS ARE OPEN NOW FOR MARCH. Click the link below to get yours before March 27th. With every foil plate ensemble there is also a role of foil – color may vary.
