Spellbinders Wax Seal Club of the Month – a different way to use your wax seal

Do you like to make cards that have different folds or designs in them? This is a great way to make an easel card!

Can’t you just see this going to someone who just bought a house? Someone who recently moved? It’s the beginning of a New Chapter in their lives.

To create your wax seal:

Melt wax of your color choice. I found with the square seal it was best to use 4 beads rather than three. It might also come out better if you use 5 beads. Use the Wax Seal of the Month for March, let it cool, then color with acrylic or metallic markers.

This fun card was quite simple to make.

  1. Take a top folding A2 card base. Score and fold one side of it in half again (at the 2.75 inch mark), folding it toward the center of the card.
  2. With some patterned paper create a background — this was just checkered but I added some ink blending with Distress Lumberjack Plaid color.
  3. Create a door using the Spellbinder Open House Door Base Etched dies
  4. Embellish your house wall with flowers, vines, whatever you’d like. These flowers are from the Rainboot Bouquet Small die of the Month-Feb 2024
  5. Attach your finished card front only on the bottom half of the card base so that when you open it the front will stick up straight.
  6. To keep the easel in place, take your wax seal and attach it to the lower center of the inside of your cardbase.

VOILA! Now your card will open and display nicely staying upright as the wax seal holds the bottom of the card front from closing.

Spellbinders Trellis die -Through the Arbor Garden Die Bundle by Susan Tierney-Cockburn

Have you ever sat in the warm sunshine under a flower covered arbor? Can you feel that warmth on your face? And the pleasing colorful flowers are entertaining your mind.

My version of this Trellis die is a bit different than the die would suggest. Instead of having a solid trellis I was easily able to create an arbor with just a couple of cuts…Just take out the two middle sections leaving the top on one piece and cut a left and a right piece of another.

I ran some white card stock through the Embossing Folder of the month to glue the trellis to. The rest was easy — die cut flowers and arrange them however you want. I purposely didn’t cover all of the trellis as I really wanted to show that you could use it in different ways.

Lovely Daffodils from Spellbinders Glimmer Club of the month

Hmmm – What’s your weather like today? Here in Michigan we’ve been having some great spring thinking weather…until today. Now we have 4-5 inches of snow!! Oh how I long for SPRING…and the sweet sight of daffodils popping up all over the yard. Planted so long ago but coming thru the thick of winter to bring us hope and cheeriness.

Spellbinder’s Glimmer plate of the month to the rescue! The foil that came with it is Champagne and it is a very soft and soothing gold. To add a bit of color I just used a few Altenew Artist markers to outline giving a subtle bit of color. The sentiment came with the glimmer plate and cut it out with coordinating die and stacked. I took the deeper yellow color Artist marker C014 and colored it all -then the clear to take some of it off. I really like this highlighted look.

And the bonus card is the reverse of this using a solid plate to foil. It almost looks black but in real life it is the same soft and soothing gold. The second picture shows more of the Champagne from an overhead view.

The brilliance is gorgeous but it doesn’t photograph well.

Spellbinders Embossing Folder of the the Month and Wax Seal of the Month

Can you smell spring in the air? Flowers might be poking their heads of out the soil as even in the Midwest we have had some really warm weather. Lilies of the Valley are early flowers that love the shade.

I love the small details and flowers on this embossing folder. It makes a terrific background on any card or on its own. (For details on the gallery of three cards, see the next post.)

A tip I did employ was to mist the back of the cardstock at least. You might want to mist both sides, especially if it is a heavy cardstock.

For the Lily of the Valley card I layered the two pieces of embossed paper. Following the tutorial from Susan Tierney-Cockburn, I made the beautiful flowers. (video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yYCE72Rmxrk&t=8s ) They are a little tricky but so well worth it in the end. I found her tip of misting the white flowers before forming them was immensely helpful.

Once the flowers were done, the rest of card came together quickly. The sentiment is from the February Glimmer Club of the Month.

The Wax Seal of the Month was my inspiration for the card itself. It, too, is the Lily of the Valley. Just melt the wax with the kit and pour the Fern wax onto the silicone mat – more in an oval that circle this time. Set the seal int the wax and let it cool. It only takes a few minutes. I used two markers to color the flower – green acrylic and white. (P.S. the Wax seal of the month has sold out except for the Deluxe Caboodle Club)

This is a special card! Lilies of the Valley are one of my husband’s favorite flowers — and it was in his boutonniere for our wedding. This will be his Valentine card because he always brightens my day.

Simon Hurley’s Easter Bunnies from Spellbinders

Hi all! Glad you joined me today for this cute Easter Bunnies stamp and die set. I got a bit carried away by making these three simpler cards –stay tuned for a really fun interactive card.

To start, I stamped the whole set and then did some simple alcohol marker coloring — I’m not a expert in that category by any means, but even simple coloring makes the bunnies come alive.

A bit of ink blending to create a sky, some patterned paper for grass and cute bunnies at play

Using one side of the TWO HEARTS AS ONE – 3D EMBOSSING FOLDER OF THE MONTH from December, 2023. I loved the heart in the background of the two loving bunnies.

The January Club 3D embossing folder gave a spectacular background and fun texture to the ink blended easter egg.

This is really cute easter bunny set…there is so much versatility to it. You can so much or so simple…whatever your choice. And the sentiments are great for it also.

Spellbinders Jan 2024 Embossing Folder of the Month

OH, THIS WAS FUN!

I tried two different things here. On the green card I DEBOSSED the paper after adding green ink to the embossing folder (Jennifer McGuire technique). The folder was brand new, and just like some new stamps the ink pooled onto the folder. But look at the really cool effect it made on the leaves! Finished it off with some heart dies from Spellbinders Dec 2023 Small Die of the Month, a shiny gold triangle, and a wax seal made from Spellbinders.

On the flowered card I went more traditional in embossing but ink blended to make grass and sky. The flower is a lovely die set from Spellbinders and Simon Hurley Creates. To jazz it up a bit I made a gatefold card only gluing some of the flowers down. The sentiment is from the Jan 2024 Glimmer of the Month kit and a few dewdrops embellishments.

Which do like better? I can’t decide…they both intrigue me. And I’m kinda taken with the texture on the green leaves.

Daffodils — Spring is coming!!!

This die is spectacular and much more versatile than meets the eye.

The full die was stunning in white glitter paper with just touches of gold. Wouldn’t this make a great wedding card?

But each individual flower also makes a statement on its own.

Almost Clean and Simple but adding a bit of texture with the Peppermint Stripes Embossing folder and extra dimension on the center of the daffodil and sentiment.

And the full flower pairs beautifully with the Four Pedals 3D embossing folder. 

Makes me smile to see the cheery and bright cards.

Spellbinders Wax Beads & Must-Have Wax Bead Mixes Collection

The Must-Have Wax Beads are super cool. The color combinations were so fun to play with and watch as the melted wax swirled on the silicone mat.

It was interesting to see how the black, white, silver, and gold combination came out differently for the three times I did it. 

My favorite is the purples and white. Which is your favorite? 

These truly are a MUST-HAVE for adding elegance and class to your projects.

Spellbinders: Glimmer Hot Foil Club of the Month

This a magnificent flower outline this month. The Aura Gold foil is so shimmery it was hard to photograph but it was great for getting two cards out of one design. First I foiled the outline and then took a solid plate and did the reverse, coming up with a white flower.

The same plate I folded with green foil…very rich looking. Plus I green foiled some sentiments from Yana’s Sentiments Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and Die Set in both the green and the aura gold. They came out beautifully.

I used watercolor to color the yellow flower and the purplish-blue flower just free-handing it. And I loved that I could a wax seal on the blue flowered card with a bit of purple streaking through. Lots of fun with this combinations.

Spellbinders Wax Seals Club of the Month

AKA FUN, FUN, FUN

When I was a kid, I used to have wax sticks that we could put on envelopes…oh, we thought we were cool and classy to send an envelope with a wax seal! 

Well, nothing has changed in the last 55 years, in that regard. Now through Spellbinder’s Wax Seal Club of the Month I can again have fun with the seals. These are even classier than what I had long ago, though. Besides envelopes they can be put on cards or scrapbook pages too. There are lots and lots of color choices. Some packs have multiple colors to swirl around and look regal. There is also a huge variety of stamps for creating the seals - anything from plain to very elaborate. With more to come each month with your Wax Seal of the month Club.

This afternoon I got out my kit, set it up and just played…experimented with colors, used different seals. I made a dozen or so and started to make a card…only to go back and make a dozen more seals. It’s addicting!

This month’s seal is “made with love” and the wax it a gorgeous shade of royal blue. 

I learned a lot today about the original set and the Seal of the Month. Here are my take-aways:

  1. Make a lot all at once. When all your supplies are right there, just go to town.
  2. The more intricate the seal the fewer the colors of wax makes the design stand out more.
  3. When putting the melted wax onto the silicone mat, just pour it OR swirl it for a different look.
  4. Feel free to use a gel pen or small marker to bring out the words or design. 

5. And, don’t just think of making a seal!!! I used the little drops of extra wax in the spoon to make my own matching embellishments.

6. And to continue stretching your supplies, save the little tiny bits that might be left or “strings” that might occur if you moved your hand in pouring the wax. Just put it back into the bag or container with like colors and on you go.

Spellbinders thought of everything as they also created stickers for the seals. You can purchase them and adhere your ready made seals on stickers to your project. 

Such a fun way to spend my day –and the bonus is I have several for the future!
