Create Stunning Butterfly Cards with Better Press

Do you love butterflies? Their array of colors are anything from muted to showy to glistening to electric. The brighter the better for me — and I love the jewel tones!

This first card is using watercolor paper with the butterfly and the sentiment on the Better Press of the Month from Spellbinders. Also used is Altenew Obsidian black ink. Spellbinders has wonderful cotton papers that will give a great impression for all your Better Press plates. Yet if you run out, fell free to use a watercolor paper…thicker than cardstock that will show impression and clearly take the ink. This is just another way to stretch your supplies.

The extra gift with the Deluxe Caboodle kits this month is a stencil to color the butterflies. I used the stencils with Distress inks of Peacock Feathers, Twisted Citron, and Squeezed Lemonade to make a bright and cheery butterfly.

The second card I stepped up a bit to combine some of the Club kits of the Month. The butterfly is the Better Press Club of the Month with Distress Peacock Feathers, Tumbled Glass, and Salvage Patina. The sentiment is also from the Better Press set.

The backgrounds were fun to add by taking vellum and the cardstock and running it through the die cutting machine with the Embossing Folder of the Month. I love the texture it give and continuity by having the vellum show behind the cardstock. And the butterfly stands out nicely against the darker cardstock.

Once assembled, use whatever bling you have to jazz up the card.

This last card was mentioned in a previous post showing how the butterfly can fit with the Stencil of the Month. I just love how Spellbinders uses their kits to create a theme or mix and match to give a huge variety of choices for makers.

How will you mix and match the club kits? I’d love to see what you do. Please tag me at @pennypynnonen on IG or leave a comment on foldedwithcare.com.

Thanks for visiting and come back again! Don’t forget to get your Club kits between the 6th and 27th of each month. Spectacular deals!

Hugs, Penny

Spellbinders Clubs of the Month – Wax Seal, Embossing Folder and Glimmer, June 2024

All three Clubs of the Month rolled into one card…simple but with some hidden tricks!

With this card I tried to capture the waves coming onto shore over the sand.

  1. Emboss a light blue, deeper blue, and sandy parchiment paper with the wavy Embossing folder of the month.
  2. On the light blue, I sanded the raised edges to show the white core of the paper.
  3. I cut the deep blue and the parchment paper pieces to create a 3.75″x 5″ piece of paper when one third is the sand and two thirds is the water and I taped them together on the back.
  4. The light blue piece was cut differently in pattern to the water and sand so it would stand out a bit differently. Then I sanded the raised portions of the light blue paper with a piece of sandpaper from my garage. This brought out the white core of the paper. Cut at a different angle than the other embossed pieces I glued that on top of the sand and water, thus creating the thinner layer of water rushing over the sand.
  5. To add some gimmer and shine I added some white embossing power and some Altenew Transluscent Pearl embossing powder over some of the deeper blue, the lighter blue, and some of the sand. This gave it a glimmery effect as if it is wet.
  6. For some added texture I mounted with foam tape over goldish and blue glitter paper then mounted it all on the card base.
  7. The wax seal was done with blue wax and then a gold uniball pen to color in the sun and rays.
  8. The sentiment is done in Satin Pewter and the June 2024 Glimmer of the month sentiments.
