“You’ve Got Mail” with Spellbinders April Clubs

Don’t you just love getting fun mail? This month’s Clubs at Spellbinders really adds to the fun!

Card One

This card uses the Stencil of the Month, the Wax Seal of the Month, and Clear Stamp and Die of the month. Colors used were teal and Lisa Horton metallic ink. The card front is popped up with foam tape for dimension. On a plain piece of white cardstock I rubbed the Lisa Horton ink pad directly to paper to bring out the purple shine. This was also done for the shadow of the sentiment.

Card Two

This is a Shaker Card! I used the Clear Stamp and Die set of the Month. First I stamped all the images, then cut out a few. The key getting the depressed cutouts in the right spot is to lay it all flat and then glue down the images you want depressed. I added a piece of acetate on the back of the front then put two layers of foam tape along all edges. From my stash I added some colored sequins. Then carefully added the card front over the background matching holes with the depressed pieces. I glued it to the card base, added the sentiment and a few of the sequins to tie it all together.

Creative Stencil Techniques for Unique Designs

This months Stencil of the month is a great example of using stencils with a twist off their normal.  As they are created and used together on their own, they make great designs.  Here I’m sharing some different ways to use them.

For this first card I used the stencil on the left, that is the smallest flower. Generally this would be the center of the flower set of stencils.  I used it in the usual way by laying it over my paper and coloring it, using a blending brush and Distress Honey Mustard ink.

Here’s where I change it up…

Using the same stencil, I picked one of the flowers and place it over the already colored flower then ROTATED it. It will create an eight pedal flower.  I do this for each of the flowers on the card front.  Voila – it looks like sunflowers.

Tell a Story using the Spellbinders Clubs

Do you ever think you don’t know what to do with a crafty product and look at and think…I’m not sure I like this cuz I don’t know what to do with it. Then BAM! The inspiration hits and you fall in love with the product, the card and the process. This was so true for me on this card! I thought about the cute shoes. I thought about the flowers. Then I looked at some of the stamps and sentiments from this month’s Spellbinders Clubs and it all fell in place.

“When I was a little girl we always got dressed up for Easter with new clothes and new shoes. Picture a young lady of Seven or Eight years old getting her new outfit. The shoes had a little heal – oh, it felt so grown up to be wearing them. My socks matched the colors of my dress. But, darn, I couldn’t keep them both up completely and they wouldn’t match on both feet.”

For this wonderful remembrance I created this card by first die cutting all of the pieces out using the Spellbinders Small Die of the Month. They are many small dies. I find it easiest to just die cut all the tiny pieces and assemble them before designing the actual card. Once the shoes were cut out I looked for some striped paper for the socks. The socks didn’t quite match, but I thought of how many times socks just don’t stay in place. I then cut out all the flowers in multiples of each. I glued them all together so that I could arrange the design. With the help of the sentiment from the Clear Stamp and Die of the Month, I thought of how these shoes could be walking through the flower field.

The background uses the Spellbinders 3D Embossing folder of the month. I love the little bows! They fit the scene I was creating so well. Some of flowers are between the shoes, behind and in front. Just as they would if the little lady walked through a field of flowers.

HAPPY SPRING! Spellbinders club kits are available from the 6-27th of each month. It’s not too late to get these really cute dies. I hope you like my story and my card. Tell me your story by leaving a comment.

Mix and Match: Create Beautiful Cards with Spellbinders Kits

Do you wonder how to use these kits on their own or with other monthly kits?  Do you wonder if you should get more than one club or the whole Deluxe Caboodle?  Spellbinders does a great job of giving each month a theme and running with it to make creating card and scrapbook projects easy.  They also go well with lots of other Spellbinders products.  So here is my Mix and Match with many great products.

BUT FIRST — Remember, the kits are available from the 6th of the month to the 27th of the month.  One more week left for this month!  (And check the end of this post for another hint.)

I just love the striking card that came with the dark red cardstock with the Embossing Folder of the Month and the gold highlights.  After embossing the background I took some metallic gold paint and splattered the red.  From the Small Die Cuts of the Month I cut the small die leaf pieces out of gold cardstock many times and scattered them on the card along with the pumpkin – with the really cute swirly stem.  The sentiment was using red foil on the Glimmer of the Month kit.

For a little taste of Halloween here is “Skully” on a spooky background.  Just look at this background and its shimmery shine!  This is done with Lisa Horton Teal Twist Shimmer Interference ink.   Then run the cardstock through the Platinum with the versatile September Embossing folder of the month.  Lots of texture without the thickness of a 3D folder.   Skully was created using the Fuchsia Flower foil with the Better Press plate for his figure and fussy cut out along with a sentiment from the same Better Press plate.

This last card is great for a general birthday card.  I had in my stash some beautiful alcohol inking sheets I made a long time ago.  I really wanted to match the deep blue as a card base but couldn’t find a sheet of paper close enough.  Tim Holtz Distress inks to the rescue.  I took a white piece of cardstock and edged it with BluePrint Sketch ink.  Voila!  It was perfect.  Then I ran it through this Embossing Folder of the Month.  At this point it looked strange but I continued on taking my cues from the alcohol inked paper.  Using the Pinking Birthday Etched Rectangles die set I cut the largest one with Silver cardstock and the middle one with the alcohol inked cardstock.

And now for a little hint — did you miss last month’s kit? Don’t forget to shop “Past Kits” as many of the items may still be available. Here are two examples of August, 2024 Wax Seal of the Month.
