A little Silly, A little Fun, A little Simple, A little Complex

This month’s Spellbinder’s Club Kits have it all… you can really create a variety of cards with this nautical themed set. Let’s just get into it.

Silly

This Walrus is so playful! He just makes you smile! The Die of the Month also includes a little bird with flags that could be added to create more fun. Here’s how to recreate my card:

  1. The background is created with patterned paper from my stash. It is run through the die cutter with the 3D Embossing Folder of the Month. TIP: Spritz the paper first with water to soften and give a deeper impression from the embossing folder. Trim to 3.75″ x 5′.
  2. Die cut all the pieces of the Walrus from the the Die of the Month set. I used Spellbinders Fog gray for the body, Spellbinders Anchor darker gray for his face, black for wiskers and nose. His shirt is a plaid with a solid jacket with a beanie to match his jacket. The pipe is made from a metallic brown paper from Michaels.
  3. Glue the pieces of the Walrus together and put a block on top to let it dry.
  4. Stamp all the sentiments from The Clear Stamp of the Month and use the coordinating die set to cut them all out. Now they are ready to go wherever you put them.
  5. On your A2 card base, adhere the background.
  6. Pop up your Walrus with foam squares – lots of them — then attach to card front.
  7. Add the sentiment and you have a very fun card that’s quick and easy.

Fun

This fun card has a special element of the Wheel spinning around and around!

  1. Using the Stitching Die of the Month cut two of the half wheels from wood grained paper. TIP: If you don’t have this you can create the look by dragging an brown ink cube across white paper.
  2. Using circle dies from any company, cut according to diagram above. TIP: Cut whole thing twice. Then cut 1/2″ circle at least 6 times more.
  3. Take the smallest circles – 1/2″ diameter – at least 8 and glue them on top of each other. Let dry completely.
  4. Glue the wooden paper pieces onto the white wheel. This helps to give stability to the wheel. TIP: Cut two of the background white wheels for extra strength – see #2. Let it dry completely.
  5. Using the bird dies that come with this set, die cut your bird in whatever colors you choose. TIP: You can also cut all in white and use alcohol markers to color the different parts.
  6. Glue your bird together and let dry completely.
  7. Using the Summertime Waves Embossing folder from June 2024 clubs, run a light blue piece of cardstock through the die cutting machine. Cut to 5″x 5″.
  8. Cut a navy or blue piece of cardstock 5.25″ x 5.25″. Glue this onto a 5.5″ square card base. Then glue on the embossed Waves piece.
  9. Without gluing, arrange the wheel, and the center tower of 8 small circles on the front of the card to be sure the wheel will be completely on the card front. Glue down ONLY the 8 small circle tower. Set your wheel over this and spin to be sure the wheel does not get caught anywhere. Over the circle tower glue the bird, again being sure the wheel will spin and not be glued down.
  10. Add your sentiment from the Clear Stamp of the Month set. On one rung of the wheel stamp or write SPIN so your recipient knows what to do. VOILA

Complex

Oh there is SOOO much in this Large Die Set of the Month. I only touched a part of it but here is what I did.

Embrace Spring: Fun Card Ideas with Foils

Spellbinders Clubs of the Month – Glimmer, Clear Stamp and Die, and Wax Seal

Do you ever look for a different way to create with the usual type of products? I wanted to step out of my box of just laying the cut out Glimmer of the Month kit and adding a sentiment. So I pushed myself to think a bit differently. I foiled it several times, both with green foil and also purple foil. I also used some lavender paper to go with the purple foil to coordinate.

For this first card I created a layered window with the flowers and leaves behind. Much like creating a shaker card I started with an open circle front. I die cut the glimmered leaves then cut each down to only partial. These pieces were layered with flowers and leaves from the Clear Stamp and Die of the Month. They were placed under an open circle of the popped up card front. This is much like making a framed three dimensional picture. The outside upper left corner was draped with more glimmered leaves and a sentiment in purple to tie it all together.

This second card, again, pairs purple and green colors together…oh so spring-like. The green leaves stand out against the purple paper. The Wax Seal of the month is the focal point with gold metallic thread surrounding the card front. Again, a lavender and purple foiled sentiment sends good wishes. An it is all framed with the Stitching Die of the Month.

I fell in love with these colors together. They seemed HAPPY and CHEERY. I hope they make you feel good!
