Altenew July 2022 Summer Love Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($300 in Total Prizes!)

What does “Summer Love” bring to your mind? For me –Warm weather, sunny skies, and memories of being kids playing and having a ball with neighborhood friends. Altenew’s Summer Love collection can help capture those memories with beautiful simplicity. These stencils and embossing folders can create awesome works of art with as much fun as playing outside or going to camp and they go together so well.

This blog hop starts with Altenew Card Blog. If you are following along you have gotten here from the wonderful Maryám Pérez and your next stop is the multi-talented artist Erum Tasneem.

My first card was super simple yet I think it’s my favorite of the group. I took Altenew alcohol ink refills and created the blue and purple background. Then I took a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of white cardstock and centered the Circled Greetings: Hugs Die, ran it through the die cutter for the card front. Now the extra fun of using the new Playful Circles embossing folder over the card front put texture on everything, including the word HUGS. With the help of some foam tape I popped up the circle over the alcohol ink, added the word ‘warm’ from the Halftone Hello set and VOILA, this beauty was created.

This next one was a bit more time consuming but still went together quickly. The Geo Triangles embossing folder was so good I wanted a large square card. The base measures 5.5″ x 5.5″ with the card front being 5.25″ x 5.25″. I used Neenah Solar white paper inside the embossing folder but learned a good lesson, too. Even though it came out ok, it could have been better if I had dampened the cardstock with a baby wipe or very damp cloth. I got just a bit of cracking of the paper which would have been avoided if I had dampened it first.

With the stencils taped down I used Altenew inks of Artic, Persian blue, Forest Glades, Frayed leaf, and Fresh Lemon. The coloring and blending these inks onto the card front went quickly and matched up easily stencil on embossing. I think this card would be great for a masculine birthday but could be used for anyone. I used the Fine Frames Diamond dies to cut from vellum to go behind the Happy Birthday die. I love using vellum to help a sentiment stand out a bit but not hide a background.

Next is the Tiled Chevron embossing folder. I can see this embossing folder used a lot for texture on many backgrounds. For this I first used my anti-static bag over the whole card front then ran the Altenew embossing ink over the high areas, directly on the cardstock. I sprinkled Antique Gold embossing powder over it and heat set it. The Fancy Celebrate die was cut with gold glitter paper and stars we cut from gold metallic paper with the Layered Stars Die set. I loved the classy look! Yet it is a quick and simple card to make.

My last card used the Fantasy Emblem embossing folder. I played with this a while before deciding what to do. I tried embossing powder on blue cardstock after using the folder and wasn’t very happy so I tried the embossing folder on a white piece of cardstock. I still was unsure what I was going to do then it came to me to cut them both diagonally. The result was lots of fun…plus it gives you a two-fer. I used just some scotch tape to hold the two sides together when the pattern matched and foam tape to pop it up off the card base. I used the same Fancy Celebrate die as above cut out three times – two in white and one in blue. Stacked the die cuts on top of each other cutting the blue to be on top and the white to finish out the word. Once glued down I used Glossy Accents over the whole word and embellished with a few sequins. Again, I think this work for anyone.
