I like to send out Easter cards but sometimes life just gets in the way and it doesn’t happen. So this year I decided to just make Happy Spring cards and send out some cheer.
What better flower than to use than the tulip to usher in the warm sunshine and beauty of spring. I created two slimline cards using Simon Says Stamps Mother’s Day Tulips Stamps and Dies from the Hello Gorgeous set. The yellow tulips were first heat embossed with white sparkle embossing powder then colored with Altenew Alcohol Artist Markers. The purple or pink tulips were also colored with Altenew Artist Markers but stamped with Simon Says Stamps Intense Black ink. I die cut 4 more tulips out of heavy cardstock then layered each of the colored tulips with two more layers behind to give them dimension. Since the yellow ones had sparkle on them already, I left them as is but the purple ones I covered with Glossy Accents. I wanted some texture to the flowers so I used my finger to spread the Glossy Accents –the surface was uneven but fully covered. Shining in the light you could pick up the variations. The yellow sentiment is from Simon Says Stamps and Dies XL SPRING GREETINGS also from the Hello Gorgeous set. The “Spring Greetings” on the purple tulip card is from Gina K.’s April Incentive Stamp set.

Next came two easy cards. Simon Says has a wonderful set of Clear Stamps LAYERED TULIPS. I was talking with a friend at the time and she said red was her favorite so I stamped the tulips in red –highlighting the top layer by heat embossing with clear embossing powder. I cut the Simon Says Stamp FLORAL CARD FRONT Wafer Die from Simon Says Stamp exclusive A2 Holographic Rainbows Cardstock carefully pulling the wings of the butterfly out to float above the tulips. The positive of the Floral Card Front is simply on top of a piece of cardstock embossed with the Altenew Diamond Stars 3D Embossing Folder.

My husband has the most glorious Magnolia tree in the front yard. It is large and spectacular as the buds begin to swell then open in the springtime. I tried to capture them by first embossing cardstock with Simon Says Stamp Embossing Folder MAGNOLIA BRANCHES and coloring with Altenew Artist markers. I wasn’t very happy with the results as it looked a bit sloppy and not as soft as I would have liked. The solution was to start over OR…put vellum over it. That was the easy, simple way with no waste! I cut a piece of vellum 1/4″ larger than the card front and used a strong sticky tape to adhere it to the back of the magnolias. Then I rant it all through the embossing folder again to give the vellum some of the texture the card front already had. I used the sentiment from Simon Says Stamps and Dies XL Greetings on vellum with colored ink and clear embossing powder. Since it is hard to put glue on vellum and not have it show, I used some Altenew double sided adhesive for the sentiments…you can’t see a thing. The card on the right was inspired by Caly Person’s card using the DieCember Etched Magnolia Blossom dies.
