Altenew Craft Your Life: Feathered Lilies

You should have arrived here from the lovely Rebecca Sogn

It is my honor to be asked to inspire you in using this wonderful kit in its debut.  I chose to use the embossing folder that gives dimension to the simple piece of cardstock.

There is so much beauty in this folder I didn’t want to cut any of it off, therefore I made a 5.5” square card instead of an A2 size card.  One of my favorite card color combinations is pink and gray.  I chose to apply ink to the embossing folder using a brayer – first I pressed my Cloudy Night ink cube onto my glass media mat, sprayed it with water, then picked up the wet ink with my brayer.  I applied this ink to the raised portion of the embossing folder that was the background – this would then create a white flower against the gray background.  White flowers are hard to create but this is one way to make them stand out.  To give a bit more pazazz to the stamen, I used a silver pen over them.

Craft-A-Flower: Orion Geranium

One of my favorite subscriptions from Altenew is the Craft-A-Flower series that gives the most realistic and gorgeous die cuts for each flower of the month. This month is no exception with the wonderful Orion Geranium. Check out this subscription at the Altenew Craft-A-Flower subscription page.

If you are following the blog hop order, you came my way from the talented Terri Koszler.

I couldn’t help myself in adding sparkle and shine to this card by using glitter paper. (I have an obsession with the glittery stuff lately) Using the different shades of purple glitter paper and the layering guide (https://altenew.com/products/craft-a-flower-orion-geranium-layering-die-set) this beauty came together quickly. I used some textured paper in the green leaves just to add a bit more texture.

Let”s look at it close up — oh, how it stands out against the black!

Perhaps you don’t wan t to use glitter paper…here is an example with the New Purple cardstock by Altenew.

I splattered some blue iridescent spray on the white background for texture. Just a plain circle in the center to offset the layered flower. Using the Altenew Green Meadows cardstock for leaves and Tiny Sentiment: Hello die the card was completed. It is just as stunning as the first card.

Your next stop on this magical road is to hop over to the wonderful and always inspiring Erum Tasneem.

New Release VINTAGE GALORE

What a great way to start the New Year of 2022 with this Vintage Galore release from Altenew!  I am so honored to be a part of this and share int the continuing fun of hot foil plates and stamps and dies.  Please leave a comment and tell me what you like best or what you would like to make using this terrific release!

You should have come to my page from the most talented Pam Boedeker . To start at the beginning of the Blog Hop please go to on the Altenew Card Blog.

I have only been doing hot foiling for a very short time and just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.  Such stunning results in such a short time.  For my first card I used the Whimsical Peony Hot Foil Plate with green foil to create the stem and the leaves.  I wanted some pazazz in this flower so, using the Whimsical Peony Simple Coloring Stencil I colored the light purple with Altenew crisp dye Wisteria ink. Again, with the stencil, I applied some glitter paste to make a darker purple.  I did have to make a small mask to go over the foiled center base of the flower as the glitter paste would have covered the beautiful green foil in that small area.  It was not hard to just cut a small piece of acetate to keep the paste from adhering to the foil. This flower was magnificent!  I trimmed it slightly, backed it with a black matting and popped it up on purple metallic paper which had been debossed with the Altenew Dotted Swirls plate.

Card number 2 was loads of fun to create.  I started with a 4.25”x5 ½” piece of cardstock, cutting out the coneflower from the Here for You stamp and die set.  I used both the negative and the positive of this…the negative is such a good way to hold your cut piece in place for coloring or for embossing.  The bottom flower is just the white cardstock with gold embossing for the flower details.  The middle flower has only the flower itself colored, but the whole thing gold embossed.  The top flower is completely colored and gold embossed.  I used Altenew Artist markers Esspresso, Dark Chocolate, Velvet, Warm Sunshine for the flowers, Parrot and Bamboo for the leaves and stem.

The backgound was trimmed down then debossed with the new and awesome Dotted Tile plate after blending a pale blue for a bit of color on the background.  I  placed the first flower in the die cut area and added foam tape behind it,  layered the other flowers on top with a bit more foam tape behind the top flower.  Before putting on the card base I used a bit of Gold Foil Pinstripe Washi Tape.  The finishing touches were the Hello from the Here for You stamp set embossed in gold and a few blue gems to sparkle.

Card Number 3 proved to be more fun than I expected.  I really wanted to use this to create a rose similar to the Peace Rose.  I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do this so I just stamped several of the large outline of the flowers.  I used the yellow to do the layering of the next size then the pink for the third layer.  There were still several spots of white in these flowers which I didn’t want.  I used my ink cubes as watercolor and with very little water filled in and blended some of the petals.  I used an “almost” dry brush and found I was getting beautiful streaks of pink in the yellow –just as the flower might really be.  To set this off I used the Circled Greetings: Hugs Die with black cardstock and popped it up over yellow card base.  Underneath the circle I put two of the flowers peaking through and the third flower is highlighted on top.  A few gold splatters and sequins captured the total look.

Card Number 4 takes us back to the hot foil technique.  The Golden Days hot foil plate creates a very fine outline of this gorgeous flower.  I used a silver foil for this outline and the Golden Days Simple Coloring stencils to add color from the Shades of Purple Crisp Dye Ink Mini Cube set and a touch of green for the center.  This beautiful flower was then matted with black and a sentiment added on black cardstock.
